Course content and learning objectives: Beginner I - A1.1

Thematic content / learning objective:

Greeting, introducing yourself and other people, asking or giving information about names and place of residence, stating and asking about nationality and origin. Basics of Italian regional studies. Stating the destination and reason for travelling and asking about it. Say who you are travelling with and by what means of transport. Find information about a holiday destination in a brochure, reserve a room in a hotel and ask what exactly is available in the hotel. Tell reception if something is missing or not working in the room. In the bar: ordering and paying, inviting friends, recognising typical bar products and expressing your own preferences. Getting to grips with a menu in a restaurant and communicating with the waiter. Ask for a recommendation and complain.

Grammar:

The subject pronouns, regular verbs of the -ARE and -ERE conjugations, several irregular verbs (essere, stare, avere, andare, venire, bere etc.), the negation, c'è, the definite and the indefinite article, numbers, the pluralisation of nouns, interrogatives: che cosa, come, dove, da dove, di dove, chi, the agreement of adjective and reference word in the singular, the verbs piacere and mancare, the alphabet. Phonetics: c and g, sc and sh, s, sp, st, gn and gl.

Course content and learning objectives for all levels

The learning objectives and grammar content listed are for guidance only. They represent an average programme that can be handled within a course of 20 units of 45 minutes each. The lecturer will decide how far the programme can be extended or deepened based on the level and other characteristics of their class and their personal teaching style. The intensity of the grammatical exercises as well as the speaking exercises using role play and listening exercises based on dialogues on CDs and videos can vary from group to group.
